Michael Irvin was born on March 5, 1966 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Although Irvin is not the most well liked player in NFL history, there is no denying that he is one of the best. Not only did Irvin have all of the physical tools to be a great wide receiver, but he also had a great will to win. These two things combined made him a great player at the high school, college, and professional levels of football.
Irvin attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was one of the best football players to ever come out of the area. This led to a heavily contested recruiting battle that was eventually won by head coach Jimmy Johnson of the University of Miami. While at Miami, Irvin set several school records including career receptions with 143, touchdown receptions with 26, and receiving yards with 2,423. Irvin helped to lead the Hurricanes to the 1987 National Title.

After passing up his final year of college eligibility, Irvin was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the 11th pick of the first round in the 1988 NFL Draft. The Cowboys are the only team that he would play for during his 11 year career.
Irvin finished his NFL career with 750 receptions for 11,904 yards. Both of these stats are good enough for the top ten all time. He also had 47 career 100 yard receiving games, and pulled in 65 touchdowns. To go along with these individual statistics Irvin also won two Super Bowl titles with the Cowboys.
Irvin is still quite involved with the game of football, and can be seen every Sunday on television talking about the upcoming NFL games. Irvin had a great college and NFL career, and will always be remembered as one of the top wide receivers to ever play the game.
